Writing an Irish-Style CV for Crèche Jobs
Irish crèche managers are busy, so a clear, simple CV makes a big difference. Here’s what works best.
Keep it to two pages. Use a clean layout with clear headings. No need for a photo, date of birth or marital status; these aren’t expected in Ireland.
Use this order:
- Your details: name, phone, email, and where you’re based or planning to live.
- Profile: two or three sentences about you, your qualification level and the role you’re looking for. For example: ‘Qualified early years educator (Level 6 equivalent) with 4 years’ experience in toddler and pre-school rooms, seeking a full-time role in Cork.’
- Qualifications: your childcare qualification, where and when you got it, and its Irish recognition status if you have it.
- Experience: most recent first. For each job, give the crèche or school name, the dates, the age group you worked with, and two or three things you did, such as planning activities, observations, or working with parents.
- Training and certificates: for example paediatric first aid, child safeguarding (Children First) or manual handling.
- Languages: include your English level honestly, plus your native language. Many crèches value bilingual educators.
- References: ‘Available on request’ is fine, but have two childcare references ready.
Use Irish terms. Use ‘crèche’ rather than ‘kindergarten’ or ‘nursery school’, and ‘early years educator’ rather than ‘teacher’ where it fits. If you know them, mention Aistear and Síolta, Ireland’s early years frameworks.
Check it carefully. Ask someone to proofread it. Small spelling mistakes stand out.
